Board Members

The Board of Directors functions to advise, assist and aid in our efforts to support breast cancer education and outreach programs.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Central Alabama holds board meetings on the third Monday of each month at  our office (1909 27th Avenue South, Birmingham AL 35209). For meeting dates and times, please see our calendar or contact us at 205.263.1700. Board meetings are open to the public.

2012 - 2013 Board of Directors

Claudia Hardy, MPA, Board President -

Ms. Hardy is the Program Director for the Office of Community Outreach and the Deep South Network for Cancer at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center; providing leadership for this National Cancer Institute funded community-based program aimed at eliminating the disparity in cancer death rates in the Deep South.  She has served on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure African American National Advisory Council since 2007.  Her areas of interest and expertise are minority health issues/disparities, access/ barriers to health care, cancer prevention and control training and program development.


Kerry P. McInerney, Treasurer-

Mr. McInerney is a partner with the Birmingham, Alabama office of Sirote & Permutt, P.C.  He has served the Affiliate as Treasurer and Executive Committee member since 2008 and is credited with helping the Affiliate switch to more efficient governance and accounting systems.  In addition, as a practicing attorney, Mr. McInerney assists the Affiliate with legal matters on a pro bono basis.  McInerney has a personal connection with the mission of the Affiliate as his wife of 16 years is a breast cancer survivor.

Rebecca DiPiazza, CPA,  Race Chair -

Rebecca is a senior tax accountant and a five year breast cancer survivor.  She currently serves as the Immediate Past President and Public Policy Chair of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Central Alabama Affiliate Board of Directors.  DiPiazza serves as a patient advocate for the UAB Breast SPORE and as a community partner for the NIEHS- funded Breast Cancer and the Environment Program.  She is a Policy Advocate for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Advocacy Alliance, and was a delegate of the Alabama Cancer Summit in 2009. She was a recipient of the American Cancer Society Life Inspiration Award (2010) and Honorary Member of Team New Balance (2007) for the North Central Alabama Race for the Cure.  

Jeannine Jersey, Member at Large-

Ms. Jersey is a local Radio  (96.5) and Television (Fox6) personality. Jeannine first began her involvement with Susan G. Komen for the Cure as volunteer and supporter in Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to her media experience, Jeannine also has experience with non-profit event planning and development.. As a member of the Board of Directors, Jeannine’s role is to manage and guide of the activities and affairs of the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate, including the strategic direction of the organization, financial management, community relations and organizational operations.

Joe O'Donnell, Member at Large-

Mr. O'Donnell is the editor of B-Metro Magazine, a monthly magazine focused on life in Birmingham, Alabama. A long-time supporter of Susan G. Komen and sponsor of the Race for the Cure, Joe’s role as board member is to manage and guide of the activities and affairs of the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate, including the strategic direction of the organization, financial management, community relations and organizational operations.

Kris Boone, Past President–

Ms. Boone is the Manager of the Bruno Cancer Center at St. Vincent’s Birmingham where she works to ensure that the needs of patients, their families and health care providers are being met.  Kris also has in depth professional experience with program marketing, having served as the Corporate Marketing Manager at St. Vincent’s for eight years. Kris brings a broad perspective and understanding of health systems, health marketing and promotion and patient care.

Beverly Laird, PhD, Advisor to the Board -

Dr. Laird is a co-owner of 3D Medical Concepts.  Dr. Laird is a founding member of the North Central Alabama Komen Affiliate and has served on the board of directors as both Grants Chair and Vice President. She holds leadership positions with the national Komen Advocates in Science program and has helped with strategic planning training for the national office.  Dr. Laird's primary interests are research advocacy and building partnerships with research organizations.
