Your power to change the world.”

ASK! ASK! ASK! - It’s just that simple. You can’t get donations if you don’t ask, so get started by sending an email to your entire contact list! Feel comfortable being PERSISTENT, and let people know where the money is going – it’s for a cure and supports Komen’s life-saving efforts!

“Fun Raising” Activity - Have a Susan G. Komen for the Cure garage sale. Get your friends and family to bring over all their unwanted items, as well as baked goods, and tell them that all proceeds go to your fundraising efforts. You can advertise by putting pink balloons and signs all over the place, from the high-traffic areas all the way to the house. Of course, this can be a great Team fundraising activity as well.

Share your story - ”Keeping a positive Spirit”

Mary’s story was submitted at our "Share Your Story" Web site. You to can share your story and be a source of motivation and comfort for those who have been affected by breast cancer.

My mother was diagnosed in May of 1979 with breast and uterine cancer and lived until 1983. For the most part, her health was pretty good. Her cancer was too far advanced for surgery so this was pretty amazing. Attitude and gratitude were everything to her. She had various hormone therapies and radiation before she eventually had to undergo chemo. It took its toll on her but she never complained. She found humor and joy in little things and I have tried to do the same. I was diagnosed myself in 1989 and mine (both, breast and uterus) were caught very early. Surgery was the cure for me and I have to say that folks who go through chemo and radiation are so very strong and brave. I have been very blessed to have family and friends who were there for me and have been good to me through the years. They put up with me and that's a big thing. Several recurrence scares have come up, but so far they have been benign. I would say to everyone out there: Self exams, mammograms after the required age and/or family history and be as healthy as possible. Get second opinions if needed. And above all, look to God as your source, rely on your family and friends and keep a positive spirit and sense of humor.

Kids for the Cure Olympics!

The 2009 Kids for the Cure Olympics will be back this year to help raise awareness for early breast cancer detection among Alabama's youth. We encourage parents to bring their children to the Race for the Cure on October 10, 2009 and join the fun. We've expanded the excitement this year to include several interactive bouncers for both toddlers and school age children, face painting, the popular Sack Race for the Cure, Pink Ribbon Ring Toss, Pink Basketball Challenge and many others. Parents need to register their child for the Race to participate in the Kids for the Cure Olympics. Let's rally together, Alabama, and exceed last year's child registration of almost 1200 youth participants.

The 2009 Kids for the Cure Olympics is just one more way that Vic Smith CPA, PC, the Accountants for the Cure, is supporting the North Central Alabama Affiliate of Susan G Komen to encourage those of all ages to start the fight early.
